Over the Easter long weekend, our incredible volunteers responded to 89 calls and attended to the below list of birds in need:
• 1 giant petrel
• 3 darters
• 2 pelicans
• 1 oystercatcher
• 1 fairy wren
• 5 cormorants
• 2 swans
• 6 silver gulls
• 1 coot
• 2 galahs
• 1 mudlark
• 2 corellas
• 1 ibis
• 2 ducks
• 3 ravens
• 1 tawny frogmouth
• 2 doves
• 1 magpie
• 1 heron
• 4 geese
• 12 deceased botulism-affected birds were removed from lakes.
These rescues included:
• 11 fishing line entanglements
• 3 vehicle strike (MVA)
This is the reality of wildlife rescue. Long hours, difficult situations, and a team that never stops showing up.
