Thanks Barbara, Danny, Jo and Lee who presented at our Walk and Talk at Samphire Cove on Sunday 28th April. Walk and Talkers were entertained and educated by your stories of how WASR was founded in Mandurah in 2003 by local legends Linda Emery, Marg Larner, Allison Dixon, Wendy Jackson and a few other awesome individuals.
WASR now has over 100 individuals, with rescues daily across the state and multiples during summer and other holiday periods. Although seabirds are the main target, WASR also rescues any bird that gets into trouble that others cannot. Most rescues in Mandurah are due to fishing entanglements. We were entertained by the demonstration of how to snare a Silver Gull and many examples of other catching techniques. The group loves to receive donations of bath towels as they are one of the most useful tools in rescues.
Thanks also to everyone who promoted the Walk and Talk. Photo courtesy of Daniela.
